Lahore: ‘New force to cut crime rate on highways’
LAHORE: A new special unit force will be instituted in each sector to deal with the increasing rate of crime on national highways and motorway. This special force will have two wings, crime fighting squad and investigation cell. National Highways and Motorway Police Inspector General Zafar Abbass Lak said this while addressing a prize–distribution ceremony held at Lahore Zonal Office on Monday for the patrol officers of N-5 Central Zone who gunned down a robber during an exchange of fire at 37 Wala Phatak near Chichawatni a few days back on national highway.
DIG Dr Muahmmed Shafiq, SSP Mirza Faran Baig and SSP Dr Anam Waheed were also present. NH&MP IG Zafar Abbass Lak appreciated the bravery of officers Syed Nazir Ahmed Shah and Imtiaz Nabi and awarded them cash rewards of Rs 50,000 each. The officers killed a dacoit, identified as Nasir alias Nasri, a proclaimed offender and wanted by the Harrapa and Chichawatni police in several cases of robbery.
