Karachi: LEAs apprehend 50 suspects across city
KARACHI: Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) claimed to have detained over 50 suspects during various targeted raids and operations in different parts of the metropolis on Monday. According to details, police claimed to have apprehended about two dozen suspects during targeted raids in various localities of Sohrab Goth including Jangal Goth, Faqira Goth, Lasi Goth and Al–Asif Square. Police officials said that the operation was conducted on a tip-off about the presence of criminals involved in various unlawful and terror activities in the city.
SHO Sohrab Goth Naeem Khan said that the major operation was conducted in Al–Asif Square that lasted for at least three hours.
He said that notorious criminal Baaz Khan managed to escape during the operation, as he jumped down from the third floor of the square when police raided his hideout, adding he is wanted in a number of cases, especially extortion.
SHO Khan said that the accused person was also receiving extortion money from the traders and shopkeepers in Sohrab Goth and surrounding areas and used to run a welfare organisation for this purpose to avoid police actions, adding that he works for the notorious criminal, Haji Jannat Gul. The group has strong influence in the police department as well. However, police detained at least four suspects during the raid in Al–Asif Square.
Similarly, as many as 15 more suspects were taken into custody during targeted raids in other parts of the city; a huge cache of weapons was also recovered from their possession. The officer said that the suspects were shifted to an undisclosed location for further questioning.
Separately, Rangers also conducted targeted raids in Haroonabad, Musharraf Colony, Qayyumabad, Sher Khan Colony, Greek Maripur and Masroor Colony, Falaknaz Plaza, Karnal Basti, Gulistan Society, Millat Town and Chanesar Goth, and apprehended about 24 suspects, who were shifted to an undisclosed location for further questioning. According to Rangers’ spokesperson, three ball bombs; a metal detector, two hand grenades, a wireless set and about 20 weapons of different calibres were also recovered.
Meanwhile, at least ten more suspects were taken into custody during targeted raids in Musharraf Colony area of Maripur. According to SHO Shafiq Tanoli, at least six hand grenades, AK-47 rifle and five TT pistols were also recovered from criminals’ possession.
In more raids, Crime Investigation Department (CID) of Sindh police claimed to have arrested three alleged target killers.
CID SSP Fayyaz Khan said that the arrests were made after a CID team conducted raids on a tip-off in Surjani and Mansehra Colony. CID officials also recovered three pistols and a hand grenade from suspects identified as Zohaib aka Doctor, Ahmed Naeem and Mohammad Rehman.
According to SSP Khan, the arrested men are involved in at least 20 cases of target killings of political workers and four cases of sectarian killings. He said the suspects were also involved in more than 25 cases of house robberies and extortion.
