Karachi: Rs53.5 million huge bank heist
KARACHI: Bandits looted Rs53.5 million from a local bank here in the remits of New Town police station on Tuesday. Police said the robbery took place at 7:15pm when the staffers were ready to go home. The bank was located at Chandni Chowk, Old Sabzi Mandi area within the limits of New Town police station. Police said that the security guard of a private company, Police Foundation, namely Shaikh Muhammad Tahir called his four companions and helped them enter the bank.
Police quoted the bank employees as saying that Tahir and his companions first caught and beat the bank’s own guard Iqbal and tightened his hands and legs with the rope and later held the staffers hostage at gunpoint. Police officials said that the robbers also brought gas cutters along with them to cut off the strong room. They also took away the DVR system while fleeing.
IGP Sindh Shahid Nadeem Baloch took notice of the robbery and directed the officers concerned to beef up the security across the City to prevent such kind of incidents. The City has been facing worst law and order situation especially after the interim government came into existence and various political parties kicked off their election drives. Most of the secuirty has been deployed on election–related evenst.
