Lahore: Lahore High Court grants bail to 9 Joseph Colony suspects
LAHORE: A division bench of the Lahore High Court on Tuesday granted bail to nine suspects accused of being involved in the Joseph Colony tragedy. The bench ordered to release the accused Sarfraz Khan, Lal Khan, Aman Ullah Khan, Muhammad Imran, Anwar, Sudheer Khan, Farhan Qasim, Imran Butt and Sudheer Khan on furnishing surety bonds of Rs 100,000 each.
Aftab Ahmad Bajwa, the counsel for the accused submitted that three applicants out of nine were nominated in FIR. He said that the applicants were innocent and police simply arrested them over public pressure. He said that the police involved them without any evidence and even no weapon was recovered from them. Counsel also said that the LHC had granted bail to many nominated accused and others in the matter but had rejected bail in this case which was unfair.
He said that the applicants should also be granted concession of bail considering the principal of consistency.
Additional prosecutor general Punjab Abdul Samad while opposing the bail application said that applicants were involved in this heinous crime of burning the house of innocent people. He said that the applicant did not deserve the concession of bail, as they were recognised as accused during identification parade.
