Karachi: Boy rescued from ‘Facebook kidnappers’
KARACHI: Police freed a 13-year-old kidnapped boy in a raid near Hub Chowki in the wee hours of Monday. Four of the kidnappers were killed in the operation. Police say the mastermind behind the kidnapping was the elder brother of the boy’s schoolmate. Citizens-Police Liaison Committee chief Ahmed Chinoy said 13–year–old Mustafa Dosal, son of Rizwan Dosal and a class VIII student at the Foundation Public School located in DHA Phase II, was kidnapped on May 24.
In his complaint lodged with the Defence police station, the boy’s father said his son had been kidnapped from school and in the evening he had received a call from the kidnappers, who were demanding Rs50 million for his release.
The Defence police forwarded the case to the Anti–Violent Crime Cell and the Citizens–Police Liaison Committee.
A joint team of the AVCC and the CPLC was formed that started negotiating with the kidnappers and tracing their whereabouts.
The team which included AVCC SSP Niaz Khosa tracked mastermind behind the kidnapping, Taimur Alvi, and arrested him at his house in DHA Phase-IV. During interrogation, Alvi told police that his younger brother, Arsalan, was Mustafa’s friend and they studied at the same school.
The two boys also used to chat on Facebook. During one chatting session, Alvi told his brother to ask Mustafa about his father’s profession and financial status. He learnt that Mustafa’s father was a billionaire and prepared a plan to kidnap the boy.
On the morning of May 24, Alvi went to the school and invited Mustafa to attend his birthday organised at a hotel. At around 11am, he tricked Mustafa into going with him from the school and took the boy to Lyari where he met his accomplice and left for Hub Chowki.
They took Mustafa to a small house near Hub Chowki, where they handed him over to four other accomplices. They chained the boy and locked him in a room. After Alvi pointed out where the boy was being kept, the AVCC and CPLC conducted a raid there. They first sent two constables, accompanied by Alvi, to the house. The kidnappers opened fire injuring the constables and Alvi.
Later, the police team killed four of the kidnappers in a shoot–out and rescued Mustafa. They found four Kalashnikovs, two TT pistols and several bullet rounds at the house.
The CPLC chief said two of the kidnappers were identified as Majid Baloch a resident of Lyari, and Imtiaz, a resident of Mawach Goth, Mauripur.
The AVCC and the CPLC had recently rescued a kidnapped US citizen, Abu Hamza, who was being held captive in the Boat Basin area. The kidnappers were killed in an encounter.
