Peshawar: NAB arrests political clerk
PESHAWAR: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Monday arrested Khalid Nawaz working as political clerk in the office of deputy commissioner and assistant political agent in Lakki Marwat for his alleged involvement in the embezzlement and accumulation of assets beyond known sources of income. The NAB KP wing produced the accused in the accountability court for obtaining his physical remand.
The accountability court judge Wilayat Ali Shah didn’t accept the NAB’s request for physical remand and sent the accused to the Central Prison Peshawar for 14-day judicial custody and fixed June 10 for the next hearing into the case.
The NAB has filed corruption reference against the political clerk of the APA. As per the NAB details, complaint was received to the bureau about embezzlement and accumulation of illegal assets against the accused. Consequently, it said the NAB took cognisance of the matter and authorised inquiry to ascertain the facts.
The NAB officials stated that in initial findings of the inquiry it was established that he purchased 80 kanals of agriculture land, 14 marla house and 4 kanals plot of land in Lakki Marwat, besides unexplained bank credits in National Bank of Pakistan and Habib Bank Limited. The total ill-gotten assets/credits become Rs8.038 million, which in no way is compatible to his status as he belongs to a mediocre family of Lakki Marwat.
