Karachi: Police arrest 8,526 suspects in 5 months
KARACHI: During the last five months, Karachi police arrested 8,526 suspects and seized a large quantity of arms and ammunition from their possession. According a police report presented to Sindh police chief Shahid Nadeem Baloch, 331 suspects were arrested in 516 police encounters. A total of 4,428 absconders, 457 proclaimed offenders, 15 car lifters, eight highway robbers, two notified robbers, 39 target killers, seven terrorists, and 3,191 robbers were nabbed in 10,336 raids.
It was stated in the report that 341 gangs were busted and 48 extortionists arrested. Forty–two robbers, three terrorists, three notified robbers and six kidnappers were killed in encounters across the city between January and May 2013.
Police also seized 302kg explosive material, four bomb–making equipments, two rockets, 68 hand grenades, two improvised explosive devices, three bombs, one suicide jacket, 11,392 cartridges, 2,427 pistols, 61 rifles, 58 shotguns and repeaters, 64 sub–machine guns/Kalashnikovs, five MP5s and two LMGs.
