Rawalpindi: Huge cache of arms, ammunition seized
RAWALPINDI: The police foiled a disastrous plan of terrorism in the twin–cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad by seizing suicide jackets, huge cache of arms and ammunition at Nasirabad on Sunday night, being transported to Rawalpindi from Peshawar by a vehicle for use in terrorist activities and arrested two terrorists.
The law enforcement authorities had also recovered heavy quantity of explosive material on Saturday from the same area, police said. Hand grenades, detonators, Klashnikov rifles, automatic guns, SMGs and thousands of bullets of different caliber were included in the consignment, the police said.
The suspects belonged to Miranshah, the sources said. The arms and ammunitions were concealed in specially made cavities and gas cylinder of the vehicle. According to preliminary investigation, Rawalpindi was the main target of terrorists, the sources said.
According to the police a terrorist Usman, arrested from Nasirabad with explosive material and detonators on Saturday revealed terrorism plans and disclosed that heavy consignment of arms and ammunition and suicide jackets with detonators would be transported to Rawalpindi by a vehicle.
The people engaged in the investigation deployed heavy contingent of police at Fateh Jang Road and intercepted the tipped-off vehicle and shifted it to a police station and recovered two suicide jackets, 20 hand grenades, 5 Klashnikov guns, automatic guns, pistols and thousands of bullets hidden in the vehicle. The two arrested terrorists were shifted to unknown place for further investigation.
