Alleged extortionist arrested in Swabi
SWABI: The police on Wednesday arrested an alleged extortionist who had been sending threatening letters to a doctor. Talking to reporters, District Police Officer Mian Muhammad Saeed said that Nadeem Hussain had sent threatening letter to a local doctor Manzoor Alam, who runs his private clinic in the Shewa Adda, demanding Rs5million.
Nadeem, who identified himself as a commander of the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan, warned Dr Manzoor of dire consequences if he failed to pay the amount or informed the police. The district police chief Mian Saeed said that the accused Nadeem was a resident of Turlandi village of tehsil Razaar.
However, Dr Alam took a brave step and informed the police, he said, adding the police succeeded to trace the number and arrested the accused. “The accused Nadeem confessed that he had not only threatened Dr Alam of dire consequences but also demand of the extortion money,” the official said.
