Karachi: Rs2.5 million bank heist in Clifton
KARACHI: Robbers managed to loot over Rs2.5 million from a private bank in Clifton area here on Wednesday. The incident took place at a branch of Meezan Bank in Block–2 Clifton within the remits of Boat Basin Police Station.
According to eye-witnesses, at least seven men entered the bank and held the two security guards hostages on gunpoint. They snatched weapons from the security guards and warned the bank staff of dire consequences if they offered any resistance. The robbers were using Pashto language during the conversation with each other and arrived at the branch on two cars. They managed to escape after completing their swift operation within ten minutes, the eye-witnesses added.
Being informed, police reached the site but could do nothing as the culprits had escaped before their arrival. Talking to The Nation, SI Zulfiqar Ali said that police have taken footage record in their possession and are trying to trace out the culprits using footages recorded at the DVR system installed at the bank. The officer further said the robbers managed to take away Rs25, 68,630 and a case has been registered on the complainant of bank manager, Sagar Shaikh.
