Peshawar Police claim arresting 4 carjackers
PESHAWAR: The Hayatabad Police claimed to have arrested four car–lifters and recovered five snatched vehicles on Monday, a police official said. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Hayatabad Banaras Khan said the police arrested Jandad Khan, who had developed connections with some senior police officers and his accomplices Israr, Dunya Gul and an elderly watchman Said Ghani. He said snatched vehicles were also recovered from the possession of the accused.
However, the family of Said Ghani, who was a watchman at a workshop in Kohat Adda situated in the limits of Bhanamari Police Station, asserted that he was not a car-lifter. They said that somebody brought a broken-down pick–up vehicle to the workshop, but the mechanics had left. They said the driver accompanied by some other persons requested Said Ghani to take care of the vehicle and left to bring a mechanic.
In the meanwhile, heavy contingents of police raided the workshop and seized the pick–up vehicle, saying it had been snatched from Hayatabad. The watchman was arrested on the charges of being a member of a carjacking gang. The family of the watchman asked the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa inspector general of police, capital city police officer and senior superintendents of police (investigation) and (operation) to release the elderly man.
