Islamabad: 5 suspects remanded to police custody
ISLAMABAD: Special Anti Terrorism Court (ATC) Islamabad Thursday remanded five suspects, including a girl, arrested in connection with their alleged role in a failed suicide attempt on a Masjid in Bahra Kahu on Eid Day, to police custody. Federal police produced all the accused before ATC Judge Atiq-ur-Rehman to obtain their physical custody and submitted an application seeking their seven days remand.
However, the judge gave the suspects into physical custody of police for two days. Police took strict security measures on this occasion and brought the accused in the court in an armour vehicle amid tight security while lawyers and media persons were not permitted to enter into the courtroom.
Earlier, federal police on Wednesday obtained one day physical custody of the five suspects after producing them before a duty magistrate due to holiday of the courts on the occasion of Independence Day. The accused given into physical custody of police are included Hadayt-ur-Rehman, Muhammad Wali, Muhammad Sadam, Yasin Farooq and a girl Mehvish.
It is pertinent to mention here that a major terrorism attempt was foiled last Friday when a suicide bomber was gunned down at a Shia Masjid (Imam Bargah) in the federal capital. The suspected bomber was trying to enter the Imam Bargah when he was timely intercepted by a private security guard who also shot him dead.
Later, police arrested many people for their alleged role in the foiled suicide attack after the identification of the bomber through his fingerprints from NADRA.
