Lahore: 6-kg gold robbed, jeweler dead
LAHORE: Dacoits shot dead a jeweler and wounded his employee on offering resistance during an armed robbery in Harbanspura police limits and snatched away 6-Kg gold ornaments on Monday, police said.
Police investigators said that both the jewelers and his worker were on their way to supply gold ornaments to their clients somewhere in the Qila Gujar Singh area when they were abducted by unidentified car–riders at gunpoint from the Gowalmandi police limits.
Four bandits stopped a car at the Mission Road, held the car–riders hostage at gunpoint, and took them towards the Harbanspura area on the canal road. The robbers opened fire on the victims and escaped after snatching 6-kg gold ornaments.
As a result, Kashif alias Kashi, 27, died on the spot while and Zeeshan Jamshaid sustained multiple bullet wounds and was admitted to the services hospital in critical condition. A police official said that Zeeshan had been running a shop with the name of ‘Fancy Jewelers’ in the Gowalmandi area since long. Police suspected that the robbers had prior information about the gold supply.
The bandits took the jewelers to the canal road, where they shot at and wounded the victims. Ironically, the gunmen continued roaming on the city roads with the abductees for a considerable time but there was no policeman to check their movement notwithstanding the victim family had alerted the police soon after the jewelers were kidnapped.
The bandits had escaped when the police reached the spot. The body was removed to the morgue for autopsy. The police investigators were collecting evidences besides recording the statements of the victim family till Monday night.
“No case has been registered yet as the officers are still collecting information about the incident,” replied Muhammad Saqib, duty officer at the Gowalmandi police station, when contacted.
