Quetta: Ex-nazim arrested in explosives recovery case
QUETTA: A leader of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Quetta and former nazim Quetta Mir Maqbool Lehri has been detained in explosives recovery case. Station House Officer, Industrial Police Station, Shaukat Jadoon confirmed to APP, here on Thursday that Lehri was detained in the police station and he was being interrogated in explosive recovery case.
“Yes, we called in Lehri at police station and he was detained. A special team has been interrogating him in a case pertaining to recovery of huge cache of explosives and ammunition from a go-down located in a commercial plaza owned by Mir Maqbool Lehri”, the SHO said.
He further said that Lehri has submitted in his statement with police that the godown, from where explosives were recovered was owned by him, but he had given it to a person on monthly rent.
When contacted, a spokesman for Frontier Corps Balochistan told this scribe that FC along with other law enforcement agencies including police following an intelligence tip-off, had conducted raid at a private go-down in a commercial plaza in the city and recovered huge cache of explosives and ammunition that was kept there to carryout sabotage act anywhere in the metropolis.
He further said that ex-nazim Mir Maqbool Lehri who was owner of the plaza, was called in by Industrial Police Station Quetta and he was being interrogated in the explosives recovery case there.
It may be mentioned here that Mir Maqbool Lehri had remained nazim Quetta Metropolitan Corporation for two times. Earlier, he was an active leader of Pakistan Muslim League-Q Balochistan.
However, later, he joined PPP and contested general elections as PPP candidate in NA–259 Quetta City in elections 2013.
