Karachi: 6 ‘kidnappers’ arrested as inter-provincial gang busted
KARACHI: The Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) claimed on Tuesday to have busted an inter–provincial gang of kidnappers from the Race Course area of Karachi and Ghotki, and arrested six alleged abductors who were involved in several cases of kidnappings for ransom.
DIG CIA Sultan Ali Khawaja told a news conference that Abdul Haq Rind, Asad Lehri and Qalandar Bux were arrested from Race Course area of Safora Goth for their alleged involvement in kidnapping for ransom cases in Karachi.
Besides three other suspects – Malik Zubair, who was arrested with a Kalashnikov and Rs 1.3 million, and Aftab and Zubair – were arrested from Ghotki and being brought to Karachi for interrogation, he added.
“These kidnappers had abducted a jeweller Atta Kitchi from Darakhshan police limits and released him after taking Rs 3 million in ransom.
They had also kidnapped Tariq Qureshi from Gulistan-e-Jauhar and released him after extracting Rs 4 million in ransom,” he claimed.
The DIG CIA claimed that the police party recovered three TT pistols from the arrested suspects who were being interrogated.
To a query, he said they were taking up short-term kidnapping incidents on priority basis and in this regard special teams have been constituted to bust the gangs involved in such crimes.
