Karachi: Bank robbery bid foiled; 3 held
KARACHI: The Aziz Bhatti police claimed to have foiled a bank robbery bid by arresting three suspects and recovering weapons and vehicles from their possession on Thursday.
According to SHO Muhammad Akram, a patrolling team of their police station spotted six armed men roaming in a Hi–roof van and two motorcycles near Silk Bank near Mumtaz Manzil on University Road.
Upon seeing police, the armed men fled from the scene and pulled up at Metropolitan Bank near Disco Morr and sent one of their accomplices inside the branch to monitor the situation.
“In the meantime, the police party, which was chasing them, reached there and managed to arrest three culprits with weapons, however, three of their accomplices managed to dodge the police and fled.
The arrested suspects were identified as Ghulab Khan, Naushad Ali and Waqas Jafri and the police seized three TT pistols, a Hi-roof van and a motorcycle being used by them.
During initial interrogation, the suspects confessed that they were planning to rob Silk Bank but when they saw police, they decided to rob Metropolitan Bank. “They have also disclosed the names of their absconding accomplices and the police were conducting search to arrest them,” the SHO said.
