4 LJ suspects among 56 held in Karachi
KARACHI: Law Enforcing Agencies claimed to have apprehended around 56 suspects including members of banned outfits, target killers and extortionists, during separate targeted raids and operations across the city here on Monday.
Additional IG Shahid Hayat while addressing a press conference held at CPO office disclosed the arrest of at least ten suspects including members of a banned organisation.
Speaking to the press conference, AIG Shahid Hayat said that police raided a house in Maripur and arrested two gangsters Tariq and Abdul Hamid alias Munna. He said that the accused were involved in targeted killing and extortion.
The suspects were believed to be involved in targeted killing of 18 people, extortion and terror attacks. Besides weapons, bomb-making equipment was also recovered from their possession.
Hayat said that several arrests were also made in Ilyas Goth area of Super Market. He said that four members of banned Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, Asghar Khan, Abu Qasim, Siddiq Akbar and Anis were arrested from Ilyas Goth. The accused received training in Afghanistan and were involved in various acts of terrorism
Police detained three suspects from Moosa Colony Federal B Area, who are allegedly affiliated with a political party. The detainees are Saqib Ghani, Muhammad Iqbal and Muhammad Babar. Hayat said that the accused persons in the initial course of interrogation confessed to killing Mairajud Din, Arsalan Ahmed and Fazal Ahmed alias Gulfam.
Separately, Docks police arrested accused Mohammad Ali and recovered weapons from his possession. The accused confessed that he killed police constable Muslim Shah eight months ago during robbery.
Hayat further said that, since Karachi is the financial hub of not only the southern province, but of Pakistan, it is a challenge to cleanse militant threats, kidnappings and extortion gangs from this city. He further claimed that concentrated operations by the police and Rangers are aimed at removing such threats from the metropolis.
Moreover, police conducted targeted operations in Sohrab Goth area and arrested seven suspected criminals Tariq Khan, Allah Rakkha, Abid and Amjad from Chakkar Morr area, while Asghar Ali, Ismail and Ahsan were arrested from Al–Asif Square.
The officials also claimed to have recovered two pistols, repeater and MP-5 gun from the custody of criminals.
Police apprehended 31 more suspects from different parts of the city including Orangi Town, Malir, Saddar and Steel Town and recovered weapons from their possession.
On the other hand, Rangers officials nabbed around eight suspects during a targeted operation in Lyari.
According to Rangers spokesman, the detainees belong to Baba Ladla group. Weapons were also recovered from their possession. A heavy contingent of Rangers participated in the raids and no one was allowed to go in or out during the operation. Rangers’ personnel were also deployed at the entry and exit points to avoid escape of any suspect during the raids.
