Karachi: CPLC recovers abducted child, arrests involved
KARACHI: Citizens Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) along with Anti Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) recovered the abducted child and nabbed six suspects involved on Tuesday. The eight-year-old Umer Mehmood was kidnapped on Monday from Defence Housing Authority (DHA) while being on his way to home from school.
The child’s father, Najam Mehmood, who works as a general manager at private oil company, soon after receiving the news of his son’s kidnapping informed the concerned police station; however, the case was handed over to the AVCC. CPLC officials said that after obtaining the calling record of the kidnappers, CPLC, in collaboration of AVCC police conducted a raid in Neelam Colony area and arrested one suspect.
And after acquiring information from him, they raided a house in Shah Rasool Colony from where they recovered another suspect. Both the suspects were interrogated, who informed about the location of the abducted child. He was held at a vacant bungalow in Khayaban-e-Saher, DHA. Hence, the boy was safely recovered within a few hours, while four more suspects were apprehended from the said location. CIA chief DIG Sultan Khawaja told media that the kidnappers had demanded Rs 20 million as ransom, while the family had agreed to pay Rs 2.5 million after negotiations.
He said the driver, Nasir, who hails from Peshawar, is the prime suspect in the kidnapping, and is yet to be arrested. The police believe the servant of the bungalow where Umar was held, also to be involved in the kidnapping.
