7 quacks arrested in Karachi
KARACHI: As many as seven quacks have been arrested and booked by different police stations of the city, Executive District Officer Health Dr Zafar Ejaz told Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui on Thursday.
He was briefing the commissioner during a meeting at the latter’s office to review the actions taken against quacks operating in the metropolis. The commissioner had announced launching grand operation against quacks jointly by the police, Health Department and the local administration.
He nominated town health officers of every district as the focal persons. The commissioner noted that quacks used to misguide patients about their health issues and playing with the health and lives of innocent citizens, saying that these quacks were operating on fake degrees, prescribing wrong allopathic medicines and minting money from the people who visit them.
He appealed to the masses not to visit quacks as they were one of the main reasons behind the spread of mouth cancer, hepatitis and other deadly diseases. Shoaib Siddiqui said that the quacks should not be forgiven for playing with the health and lives of the people and strict action should be taken against them. Dr Ejaz said that quacks have been served with notices to clear their position by showing their verified degrees.
