Karachi: CID nabs another Lyari gangster
KARACHI: Crime Investigation Department (CID) apprehended an accused person namely Shahid Malik alis Bikik from Supper Highway on Thursday.
CID police conducted a raid on a tip-off and managed to arrest Bikik, while he was trying to flee from Karachi to Nawabshah, due to the ongoing operations.
Bikik is a notorious Lyari gangster, who was involved in attacking former President Asif Ali Zardari’s chief security guard Bilal Sheikh. Furthermore, the gangster was also involved in target killing, killing after abduction, extortion, robberies and other heinous crimes. More than 50 criminal cases were registered in different police stations against Bikik. CID after the arrest has shifted the detainee to an undisclosed location for further questioning.
Earlier on Tuesday, a notorious gangster of Lyari, Sheraz Comrade was apprehended from Lahore Airport, when he was trying to escape to Dubai with a fake identity. Sources at the Airport said that Comrade was faking to be a man named Adeel while trying to escape to Dubai. Comrade was a close aide of chief operational commander of Lyari gangsters, Noor Mohammad alias Baba Ladla and considered the second most wanted Lyari gangster.
He is involved in more than 70 cases of heinous crimes, including target killings, killings after abduction, extortion, kidnapping for ransom, attacks on Rangers, police, encounters and narcotics. Comrade was the chief operational commander of Lyari’s Baghdadi area, Baldia Town and Old City areas including Kharadar and Mithadar. He was also involved in a number of cases of attacking traders and shopkeepers by lobbing hand grenades over refusal to pay extortion money.
The government of Sindh also put Rs 500,000 reward money for his arrest. He is likely to be shifted to Karachi on Wednesday (today) or Thursday to be produced before a court.
Since law enforcers launched the Karachi operation, they have made three major breakthroughs in the criminal and terror networks in the city.
Earlier on Tuesday evening, Rangers had arrested another notorious Lyari gangster Nadeem Shah. He was arrested during a targeted raid conducted in Karnal Basti area near Old Sabzi Mandi in Gulshan-e-Iqbal.
According to Rangers spokesperson, Shah was associated with Darvesh group of Lyari gangsters who operate in Karnal Basti area. The accused was wanted in cold-blooded murder of an army soldier in Old Sabzi Mandi area as well as attack on Rangers mobile and bank robberies.
Another wanted extortionist linked to the Lyari gang war, Ameen Buledi, was arrested a few days ago, also from Lahore. So far, law enforcement agencies have arrested 2,422 criminals during 1,870 raids between September 6 and September 24 in the ongoing Federal government assisted targeted operation in Karachi.
According to Interior Ministry figures, 11 criminals were killed during 122 encounters with Rangers and police in the three-week operation.
During the operation from September 6 to 24, the law enforcement agencies have conducted raids in areas of Millennium Mall, Drigh Road, Shah Faisal Town, Karnal Basti, Old Sabzi Mandi, Gulshan e Iqbal, Phool Pati Lane, Aman Park, Lyari Town, Jamaat Khana Kharadar, Zia Colony, Korangi Town, Baldia Town, Raja Tanveer Colony, Jamshed Town, Gaddap Town and some other areas.
At least nine criminals have been arrested for acts of terrorism, 22 for extortion, 13 for involvement in kidnapping for ransom, 204 for robberies, 542 for illegal possession of arms and ammunition and 403 for narcotics possession.
The law enforcement agencies arrested 85 proclaimed offenders, 506 absconders and 641 for crimes of other nature. During raids, the law enforcement agencies recovered 10 Kalashnikov, 678 pistols, revolvers and mousers, 23 rifles, 27 shotguns and repeaters, 27 bombs, 2,515 grams of heroin, 109,484 grams of hashish and 564 bottles of wine.
902 personnel performed duties on static picketing, 55 personnel were deployed for foot patrolling, 312 personnel for motorcycle patrolling and 1,832 were on mobile patrolling.
The matter of concern for the government is that as the operation in Karachi began, over 250 terrorists had entered North Waziristan in small groups.
