Karachi: 79 more suspects rounded up in raids
KARACHI: The Sindh Rangers and police arrested 79 criminals in targeted raids conducted on Tuesday and recovered a large quantity of weapons, including sub–machine guns and a grenade launcher.
A Rangers spokesman said that 29 suspects, including Lyari gang war elements and politically–affiliated criminals, were arrested during separate raids in Bhittai Colony, Madhu Goth, Gulshan- e-Iqbal, Lyari’s Khadda Market, Khuda Ki Basti, Baldia Town, North Nazimabad, Muhammad Pur, Gulshan-e-Zia, Malir Saudabad, Landhi, Pehalwan Goth, Jamshed Road, Burns Road, Gulshan-e-Maymar and Korangi. Snap-checking was also carried out on the Valika Road and in the Manzil Pump area.
He added that the Rangers also conducted raids in the Old Dhobi Ghat and Baghdadi areas of Lyari early in the morning, which led to the arrest of notorious gangster Rehan, belonging to the Wasiullah Lakho group. Narcotics, ammo and weapons, including a grenade launcher, were recovered in the raid.
The spokesman further informed that a coordination meeting was held at the Rangers HQ on Tuesday, which was attended by police investigators, Rangers law officers, sector commanders, wing commanders and special public prosecutors. The meeting was convened to formulate a strategy to ensure efficient prosecution of criminals, in accordance with legal provisions. The Protection of Pakistan ordinance, existing laws and the progress of ongoing court cases came under discussion.
