Karachi: Closing in: 173 more caught in the noose
KARACHI: Law enforcers claimed to have killed an alleged gangster and an alleged criminal while around 173 suspects were taken into custody during separate targeted raids across the metropolis on Tuesday.
In the first happening, according to sources privy to the matter, Rangers personnel were attacked by gangsters when they raided a hideout, on a tip-off, in Baghdadi, Lyari, early Tuesday morning.
In retaliatory firing by Rangers an alleged gangster was killed and another was wounded, while around half a dozen men were apprehended during the encounter.
A huge cache of weapons was also recovered. Deceased gangster was later identified as Sultan Umair and injured as Chohta Jhengu. The suspects were shifted to an undisclosed location for further questioning.
Another encounter took place in PECHS, when a group of criminals held hostage a car dealer, Sher Afgan who was on his way home after dropping his children at a nearby school.
As a routine police patrol reached the site, the suspects opened fired at the party, and an alleged criminal died in retaliatory firing. However, police were able to apprehend four suspects, including a woman after the encounter. Police wanted the group in a number of criminal cases.
Separately, SSP East Pir Mohammad Shah, while addressing a press conference at his office disclosed the arrest of three suspects namely Ovais Langra, Tehseen and Sajjad alias Sajid. Speaking to the press, the SSP disclosed the detainees were involved in killing people and dumping their bodies in different areas, and that in the month of September three bodies were found in Gulistan-e-Jauhar.
Meanwhile, Rangers Sindh conducted targeted raids in Sara View, Sohrab Goth and Gulshan-e-Bonair at the hideouts of banned organisations. During the above mentioned actions 16 hardened criminals including four TTP terrorists were arrested. Weapons of different calibres, including SMGs, hand grenades, mixed ammunitions and large quantities of narcotics were also recovered.
In other raids, Rangers Sindh apprehended 28 alleged criminals from various parts of the metropolis, including Korangi’s Zia Colony, Nusrat Bhutto Colony, Taiser Town, Surjani Town, Frontier Colony, Metroville, Model Colony, and parts of Lyari (Chakiwara, Peoples Football Stadium, Umar lane, Lyari General Hospital and Ali Muhammad Mohallah).
According to Rangers spokesperson, gangsters and criminals affiliated with political groups involved in heinous crimes were arrested, along with weapons of different calibres including uni–barrel rocket launcher with ammunition, grenades and explosives.
Similarly, Karachi police claimed to have apprehended around 104 criminals during 87 raids and 11 encounters. The officials also recovered hand grenades and 40 weapons of different calibres from the possession of suspects. 25 absconders, 32 illicit, 19 drugs peddlers, 10 dacoits and 16 others were among the detainees.
