250 held in Peshawar crackdown
PESHAWAR: Another 250 suspects were rounded up during a crackdown in the limits of Yakatoot Police Station on Tuesday — a day after a blast that killed a child and injured six others.
Superintendent of Police (City) Mohammad Ismail Khaarak said automatic weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the possession of the arrested persons. A search operation was also carried out in the area last week during which 102 suspects were apprehended. Most of the arrested persons proved to be innocent and were released subsequently. A similar operation was carried out in Gulbahar locality on Monday during which around 40 suspects were arrested.
The general public protested against the insulting way of carrying out raids on the houses of innocent people and taking them to the police stations. The police, however, asked the general public to cooperate with the cops as they were faced with an extraordinary situation.
Meanwhile, the first information report of the Monday blast was lodged against unidentified persons. Police said the raids were conducted to hunt down the culprits behind the bombing. Red alert has been ordered in Peshawar and the rest of the province.
