Karachi: 2 ‘TTP militants’ arrested, arms seized
KARACHI: Two men, believed to be Taliban activists planning to carry out a terrorist attack during the month of Muharram, have been arrested, police said on Wednesday.
DIG East Munir Ahmed Sheikh told reporters at a press conference that responding to information provided by intelligence personnel, the East Range police was snap checking vehicles on the Super Highway when they signalled a truck bearing licence plate No Z-3241 to stop. The occupants of the vehicle fired gunshots at the police. The law enforcers fired back and arrested two men, Zubair Ahmed and Mohammed Ali. The truck was seized and after a search it was found that there were six kilograms of explosive material, 17 grenades, and 17 pistols with silencers and bullets concealed in it.
The DIG said they were told by the intelligence personnel that some Taliban activists sending explosives to Karachi from Waziristan in a truck to carry terrorist activities in the city.
“During interrogation, the two men have disclosed that they were planning to carry out a major attack during Muharram,” the police official added.
