Karachi: 30 more rounded up, weapons seized
KARACHI: The law enforcers rounded up 28 more suspects and seized a number of weapons and ammunition as the operations continued across Karachi on Tuesday.
In Shah Faisal Colony, police seized a large number of guns and bullets during a sweep up before a Muharram procession.
Several assault rifles, pistols and shotguns were seized from a compound in Shah Faisal Colony No. 4, the police said.
“The policemen were sweeping the route of a Muharram procession when the weapons cache was found in a house,” SSP East Pir Muhammad Shah told journalists at his office.
The arms included four Kalashnikovs with 545 rounds, two .22 rifles, four 9mm pistols with 150 rounds, three .30 pistols with 180 rounds and a 12–bore repeater shotgun with 180 cartridges. Hundreds of rounds of G-3 rifles and .222 rifles were also found.
All the weapons and ammunition were packed in gunny bags and had apparently to be used in some major terrorist activity. No arrests were made as the house was abandoned.
