Karachi: No pillion riding till Nov 20, 88 arrested for violation
KARACHI: Law enforcement agencies arrested more than 88 people for violating the pillion riding ban, as it was extended for two more days on Monday. The police booked and arrested around 88 people and FIRs were registered against them.
They were arrested from all five districts of Karachi including district South with 62 arrests; 22 from district West and Central, and four from district East and Malir. Interestingly, no one was arrested during the first four days of ban. While the ban has been extended in Karachi, it was lifted in the rest of Sindh, as per Sindh Home Department’s notification. Provincial government imposed the ban on pillion riding to ensure affective security during Muharram 9 and 10. Earlier, the ban was extended on Muharram 10 for two days all across the province on police request, and now it has been prolonged for another two days till Muharram 14. Most of the arrested people complained that they were unaware of the ban, however, they were sent behind bars in different police stations. The judicial magistrates concerned later released the citizens arrested on bail.
