Karachi: Bank heist foiled, 4 robbers arrested
KARACHI: The Special Investigation Unit of the Sindh Police claimed to have busted a four–member gang of robbers by foiling a bank heist on Wednesday.
SIU SSP Farooq Awan said the four robbers, including ringleader Rashid Kashmiri, were caught looting a bank at Habib Bank Chowrangi in the SITE area.
The other three were named as Aijaz alias Wiki, Umair Ali and Saeed Khan.
A baby Kalashnikov, an MP5 submachine gun, four pistols, two motorbikes and Rs1.5 million looted from different banks were seized from the suspects, said Awan.
He said the gang’s ringleader used to enter banks first with an office bag containing weapons, while his accomplices would arrive separately. They would then snatch weapons from guards and rob the banks, he said.
The robbers, who were identified with the help of CCTV footage of the robbed banks, were involved in seven heists in the city, said the police official.
They robbed an Al-Falah Bank branch in Defence, two Allied Bank branches in PECHS, a Habib Metropolitan Bank branch in Defence and two MCB branches each in Sakhi Hasan and Mehmoodabad areas.
