Karachi: 47 rounded up by Rangers, police
KARACHI: The Rangers conducted raids in different parts of the city on Sunday and rounded up 14 alleged hardened criminals, while the police arrested 33 suspects and recovered arms and drugs from their possession.
According the spokesman for Rangers (Sindh), the personnel conducted raids in Chakiwara, Lyari, Korangi Industrial Area, Korangi No. 2 ½, F.C Area, Mianwali Colony, Frontier Colony, Light House and Banaras Chowk areas.
They also conducted snap checking at Shah Nawaz Chowk, Lines Area, Water Pump Chowrangi and Golimar areas.
In all, the Rangers arrested 14 alleged hardened criminals, including Lyari gang war elements, affiliated with various political groups and involved in heinous crimes. The raiding parties also recovered weapons including SMGs from their possession.
Meanwhile, the East Range police arrested 16 suspects with a recovery of a pistol, a revolver with five rounds, 320 grams of hashish, 10grams of heroin, a dumper and a motorcycle.
The West Range police arrested 17 outlaws and recovered seven pistols, 17 rounds, 460 grams charas and one mobile phone and cash from their possession.
On Saturday 80 people, including an alleged target killer and three suspected extortionists, were rounded up by the law enforcement agencies during raids conducted.
The East Range police claimed to have arrested 23 criminals, including a target killer and three absconders, with seven pistols, 23 rounds, 140 grams of hashish and four bottles of wine.
The West Range police claimed to have arrested 34 criminals, including 19 proclaimed offenders and absconders, with three pistols, nine rounds, 210 grams of hashish, 20 bottles of moonshine, a mobile phone, a motorcycle and cash.
The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) claimed to have arrested three extortionists involved in a number of cases.
SIU Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mohammed Farooq Awan said a police party conducted a raid in Ranchore Line and after an encounter, arrested Abid Zaib Khan, Raja Amir Abbas Jafri and Syed Rashid Hussain Shah with three pistols.
The accused were involved in a number of extortion cases in the old city area, including Ranchore Line, added the SSP.
The Rangers claimed to have arrested 20 hardened criminals with weapons, including sub–machine guns, during raids carried out in different parts of the city.
Karachi: Cop arrested among 77 suspects
KARACHI: Law enforcers claimed to have apprehended around 77 suspects including target killers and Lyari gangsters during the ongoing-targeted raids across the city on Sunday.
In the first happening, Mehmoodabad police arrested two suspects including a policeman for his alleged involvement in the incidents of target killings. The arrests were made when Mehmoodabad police conducted a raid near Kala Pul and Akhtar Colony areas. According to SHO Mohammad Sarwar, the accused policeman Wajid Hussain posted to Boat Basin police station, was involved in the target killing of an ex–policeman Rafaqat while the other accused Tahir was involved in the target killing of a local restaurant owner, Abdullah Saeed. The officer while quoting the arrested cop said that he and Rafaqat were relatives and he killed him over some family matters. The case has been registered while further investigation was underway.
Separately, three suspects were taken into custody during an encounter with the police in Defence. DSP Tariq Mughal said the weapons, snatched motorcycle and looted cash were also recovered from their possession while further investigation was underway.
Moreover, Karachi police nabbed around 58 criminals during separate targeted raids and operations in various parts of the metropolis. The officials also recovered weapons, drugs and snatched motorbikes from the possession of suspects.
Meanwhile, Rangers conducted targeted raids in Chakiwara, Korangi Industrial Area, Korangi, Mianwali Colony, Frontier Colony, Light House and Banaras Chowk areas and carried out snap checking in Shah Nawaz Chowk, Lines Area, Water Pump Chowrangi and Golimar localities. According to the Rangers’ spokesman, 14 hardened criminals including Lyari gangsters and criminals affiliated with political groups, involved in heinous crimes were arrested along with weapons.
