Karachi: 2 ‘TTP terrorists’ among 33 arrested across city
KARACHI: Eight hardened criminals, including two Tehrik–e-Taliban Pakistan terrorists, were arrested by the Sindh Rangers during raids in several areas of the city on Monday. Moreover, police and SIU teams held an additional 25 suspects and recovered weapons and narcotics from their possession.
A Rangers spokesperson informed that two TTP terrorists were arrested from Landhi No. 6 after a brief encounter early in the morning. Sophisticated weapons, including two LMGs, a sniper rifle, a .22 rifle, a 9mm pistol and a large quantity of mixed ammo, were recovered from their possession. He added that six more suspects, allegedly involved in several cases of extortion and target killings, were rounded up during raids in Dawood Challi, Majeed Colony, Staff Colony – Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Angara Goth, Nazimabad, Malir Khokhrapar, North Nazimabad Block I, Liaquatabad, Gulshan-e-Iqbal Block 12 and the Shah Baig Lane in Lyari. Snap checking was also carried out in the Karachi Export Processing Zone.
Meanwhile, as the security operation continued across Karachi, a decision to intensify efforts was taken by senior law enforcement leadership during a high–level meeting convened at the Sindh Rangers Headquarters.
The meeting, chaired by DG Rangers Major General Rizwan Akhtar and aimed at evaluating the progress of the joint operations, recognized the need for more synergised efforts to achieve the operational objectives. Police high-ups, including IGP Sindh Shahid Nadeem Baloch and AIG Karachi Shahid Hayat, and senior officials of the paramilitary force were in attendance.
