Bank robbers’ held in Karachi
KARACHI: In Gulistan–e-Jauhar, the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) police claimed to have arrested two bank robbers in a raid. Mazhar Abbas and Syed Kashif Ali were detained after a brief encounter and a Kalashnikov, three .30 pistols, one 9mm pistol and hundreds of bullets were seized.
They had been identified from the CCTV footage of the Faisal Bank branch in Buffer Zone. They hail from Parachinar in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
SSP Mohammed Farooq Awan said the suspects were members of an organised criminal group with links to private guards deployed at banks. On November 1, the men had robbed Rs1.4 million from Faisal Bank and also shot dead a security guard. They also confessed to looting Rs3.8 million from Meezan Bank in North Nazimabad with the help of a guard, Kashif, posted at the bank.
On February 22, they had robbed Rs2.1 million from Soneri bank in Darakhshan police precincts with the help of their associate Sarfraz, who was the bank security guard.
