Islamabad: Huge cache of arms, ammo seized
ISLAMABAD: The National Highways and Motorway Police (NH&MP) foiling a bid of terrorism, recovered huge cache of illegal arms and ammunition, which could be used in terrorist activities in Punjab, and arrested 2 accused.
During routine patrolling NH&MP officers — DSP Younas Ansari and JPO Tariq Jamal — signalled to stop a suspicious vehicle bearing registration number LEB–3341 near Burhan interchange on Motorway, M-1. The driver of the vehicle tried to speed away, but the Motorway Police officers succeeded to stop the said vehicle through commando action and arrested 2 culprits namely Amin ur Rehman and Muhammad Asim hailing from Peshawar.
During the search of the vehicle, the officers found heavy quantity of arms and ammunitions including 4 Kalashnikovs (SMG) with 8 magazines and 1,680 live round, 12 light machine gun (LMG) with 24 magazines, 18 pistols of 30–bore with 49,500 live rounds, one 12–bore rifle with 16 magazines, one Mark-1 rifle, 3,000 live rounds of 9mm pistol. The vehicle was also taken into custody and the local police was called. Later on, the arrested culprits along with the vehicle and the recovered arms & ammunition were handed over to the local police for further legal action and investigation.
