LEAs arrest 155, including target-killers, in Karachi
KARACHI: Law enforcers claimed to have held around 155 suspects including a target killer affiliated with a political party during separate raids and operations across the city on Sunday.
As per details, Clifton division police apprehended at least nine alleged criminals including an alleged target killer affiliated with a political party. Clifton division SP Muhammad Nadeem while addressing a press conference held at his office disclosed their arrests. SP Nadeem said that Gizri police on a tip-off conducted a targeted raid in Akhtar Colony Signal and managed to arrest an alleged target killer Mohammad Azam alias Langra, who was affiliated with a political party. A pistol was also recovered from his possession.
SP Nadeem said that the accused has been involved in at least seven cases of target killings in District South, including three members of Bohra community in two separate incidents in Aram Bagh and Preedy areas, two workers of Pakistan People’s Party in Eidgah area and three Baloch speaking people in Aram Bagh and Kharadar areas. “Though we have information that he has been involved in seven killings, he has confessed to the killings of five people so far. Investigation is at the preliminary level,” the officer explained. “We have gotten leads from him and will arrest more of his accomplices soon.”
As many as five more suspects involved in various cases of street crimes and drug peddling were arrested in Chenasor Goth by Mehmoodabad police, SP Nadeem said. The accused persons were identified as Arif, Zulfiqar, Abdul Hafeez, Naveed Gul and Pandi Khan, who were arrested in two separate encounters.
The SP also said that the suspects belong to the slain Ashok Kumar group of drug peddlers in Chenasor Goth and were also being questioned about their or their group’s involvement in the killing of head constable Javed Masih. Masih was gunned down during an encounter with the drug peddler a couple of days ago in the same area.
Three more suspects Shahzab, Irshad and Raeesuddin, were arrested from Darakshan area. They were involved in various cases of robbery, including a Rs 0.5 million theft from a department store in Badar Commercial area.
As per SP Nadeem, the accused were arrested red–handed when they were trying to escape after robbing a store. Three pistols and looted cash were also recovered from their possession, while a case has been registered on complaint of store’s owner, Haji Abdul Wahab.
On the other hand, Rangers arrested at least 12 hardened criminals during separate raids in different parts of the city, including Landhi 36, Lyari, Darwaish Colony, Old Sabzi Mandi, Mairpur, Faisal Colony, Ghazi Town and New Karachi. Rangers’ spokesperson also informed that weapons were recovered from the suspects’ possession.
Separately, Karachi police detained around 134 suspects including target killers, extortionist, drug peddlers’ and robbers in separate raids. The officials also claimed to have recovered weapons from their possession.
