Police bust bank robbers’ gang in Karachi
KARACHI: Police claimed to have busted an eight–member gang of bank robbers on Wednesday allegedly involved in a number of bank robberies in the metropolis.
The arrested gang members, included Farooq, Mazhar Shah, Amir, Moin, Imran, Syed Aleem, Zeeshan and Imtiaz. The arrests were disclosed by the Counter Terrorism and Financial Crime Unit of the Crime Investigation Department.
The officials concerned claimed the arrests were made after the police conducted raid at their hideout in Site area. They were arrested after an exchange of fire.
“They have so far been confessed to have robbed million of rupees from at least 11 banks in 2012 and 2013,” said Counter Terrorism Unit in–charge Raja Omer Khattab. “We have also recovered Rs0.4 million while more recoveries are expected,” he added.
Khattab said he had also recovered 13 pistols, out of five were snatched by the security guards during the bank robberies. Further investigation was underway.
Scores of incidents of bank robberies took place during the last couple of months, posing a challange for the law enforcing agencies in Karachi. But, the situation might get positive indicators following the strict action of police against the gangs involved in bank robberies.
