Lahore: 499 gangs busted, Rs 68m recovered in 2013
LAHORE: Lahore police claimed to have arrested 1,376 members of 499 gangs and traced 1,286 cases against them besides recovering more than Rs 68 million from the gangsters in 2013.
Around 17,095 proclaimed offenders and court absconders were also arrested in the same period.
According to a handout, Lahore police utilized their full energies to control the crime incidents in the city and to arrest the criminals involved in different unlawful activities.
Police arrested 1,376 criminals of 499 gangs who were involved in different heinous crimes.
During the same period, 4,178 cases were registered against 4,226 accused for having illicit weapons.
Police seized 42 Kalashnikovs, 192 rifles, 302–guns, 3,586 pistols, 87 daggers and 17 cabines.
Following action against drug dealers, 4,980 cases were registered and 5,175 accused were arrested and over 206–kg heroin, nearly 1192–kg chars, over 48–kg opium and 55,100 bottles of liquor were seized.
Moreover, 1,362 cases were registered against gamblers and 6,029 accused arrested while stake money more than Rs 9 million were seized.
