Karachi: 106 more suspects off streets
KARACHI: Law enforcers claimed to have held around 106 criminals, including target killers and extortionists affiliated with a political party and Lyari gangsters during separate targeted raids on Wednesday.
Pakistan Rangers Sindh during their ongoing drive against criminal elements detained around 14 hardened criminals including target killers and extortionists affiliated with a political party and Lyari gangsters.
Weapons including SMGs, walkie–talkies and satellite phones were also recovered from their custody. Rangers’ personnel raided Al Falah, Muhammadi Goth, Shah Faisal Colony Number 5, Rafa-e-Aam Society, Jatt Lines, Joria Bazaar, Raja Tanveer Colony, Ittehad Town, Baghdadi, Chakiwara and Safilane.
On the other hand, a high–level security conference was held in the wake of Eid Miladun Nabi at Rangers HQ, presided over by DG Rangers Major General Rizwan Akhtar.
DDG Rangers, Joint DG IB, Rangers Sector Commanders, Zonal DIGs, DIG (CIA, Traffic and Special Branch), representatives of the CDGK and KESC were also present at the meeting.
Plans for effective security at the event were finalised to maintain and ensure foolproof security. Temporary pickets would be established and manned round the clock. Snipers would be deployed on rooftops on the procession routes. Meanwhile, streets and roads leading to the procession routes would be sealed and only specific places open to allow public access.
Sniffer dogs would also be employed, coupled with aerial surveillance. A strict ban would be imposed on aerial firing and in case of violation, severe punishment handed out to the culprits. Ulemas of all sects have been urged to maintain peace and promote inter-sectarian harmony.
Separately, Karachi police nabbed around 92 criminals including 29 absconders, seven burglars and four terrorists. The arrests were made during 105 raids and four encounters. The officials recovered weapons and drugs from their possession.
