Islamabad: 63 suspects arrested in search operation
ISLAMABAD: The Rural Zone Police have arrested offenders, including Afghan nationals, during a crackdown on criminals active in Islamabad, police said.
A comprehensive search operation was conducted in the wee hours of Sunday in different localities in the jurisdiction of Rural Zone, including Sohan, Zia Masjid and New Shakrial and arrested 63 suspects. Police recovered arms and ammunition, stolen vehicles and narcotics from their hideouts.
“As many as 400 cops, including commandoes of the Anti–Terrorist Squad and Elite Force, took part in the search operation commanded by SP (Rural Zone) Captain (r) Ilyas and initiated crackdown at 5 a.m.,” police said, adding the police contingents cordoned off the targeted areas before starting operations.
A breakdown of targets was accomplished after completion of the operation with the arrest of 10 target offenders, 6 Afghan nationals and 47 other suspects and recovery of a stolen Suzuki pickup, 7 motorbikes, 2 pistols, 1.5 kilograms of hashish, 50 grams of heroin, 50 bottles of liquor and spare parts of 3 stolen motorcycles.
