Karachi: Bank guards aid robbers to loot Rs 0.27m
KARACHI: At least three armed bandits robbed Rs 270,000 from a branch of private bank in Gol Market area of Nazimabad on Monday.
At least three armed bandits barged into the branch of private bank at the said place and held the staffers and three security guards hostage at gunpoint. The armed bandits easily managed to escape after looting Rs 270,000 from the cash counter.
Reacting on the information, police reached the site. Police, while quoting initial investigation, said they suspect the involvement of security guards and a cashier in the bank heist. “We are sure the guards and one of the cashiers helped robbers to loot the booty from the bank,” claimed SHO Ejaz Lodhi. “They are not even approaching the police to lodge an FIR.” The robbers also did not take the CCTV cameras installed at the bank away with them while fleeing; however, police investigators have obtained the footages recorded at the DVR System and initiated further investigation. The officer after watching the CCTV footage said, “It can be seen in the CCTV footages obtained from the bank that all the three guards did not try to offer resistance while the robbers as well did not try to snatch their weapons. Even the cashier himself provided them the cash.”
SHO Lodhi further said the police did not detain the security guards and the cashier; however, they will be held after completion of the initial course of interrogation. No case has been registered till the filing of this news story. It is worth mentioning that this was the second bank heist in the first 20 days of 2014. Earlier, two private security guards lost their lives while robbers fled after looting Rs 1.6 million from a branch of private bank in Korangi on January 7.
