Karachi: 5 ‘militants’ among 122 held in raids
KARACHI: Police rounded up 122 suspected criminals, including militants belonging to banned outfits, in raids and encounters across the city in the last 24 hours.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Syed Pir Mohammed Shah of District East said that acting on a tip-off a team raided a hideout in Bilal Colony in the Quiadabad police remit. On seeing the police, he said, five alleged notorious criminals opened fire, which was returned by the police.
After the shootout, the police arrested the five suspects and seized five TT pistols, one double barrel gun and one .222 rifle from them. SSP Shah said the men belonged to banned religious outfits and were involved in heinous crimes.
Meanwhile, the East Range claimed taking into custody 93 suspected criminals, including three absconders. Thirteen pistols, 47 rounds, one dagger, 1,565 grams of hashish, three motorcycles and three cellphones were seized from those arrested.
The West Range police conducted 23 raids and picked up 29 men, including four proclaimed offenders. They also claimed finding 17 pistols, 46 rounds, twp revolvers, hashish, cash and three motorcycles on them. They added that 17 of the men were arrested after five encounters by Rizvia, Liaquatabad, Ittehad Town and Surjani police.
