2 of 6 accused arrested in Bahawalnagar
BAHAWALNAGAR: Six persons were booked, two of whom arrested, for refusing to get their children vaccinated against crippling polio and intimidating lady health workers in two villages of Fortabbas.
According to details, LHW Abida Nazir complained that they went to administer polio drops in Chak 264/HR, where Tasawar, Munawar and Abdul Latif not only refused to get their children administrated anti–polio drops but also used abusive language and misbehaved with the team members. On her complaint the Fortabbas Police registered a case 38/14, U/S 186/34 against the accused and arrested one of them Abdul Latif.
In another incident LHW Nargis Imtiaz recorded the same complaint against Ashraf, Aslam and Arshad, residents of Chak 285/HR. The police registered another case 39/14 u/s 186/34 against Ashraf, Aslam and Arshad and arrested the Ashraf.
Meanwhile local MPA Naeem Ibrahim condemned the occurrence and attributed it to the illiteracy and lack of awareness among people, especially in the far-flung areas. He said that he would personally make efforts to sensitise people to the importance of anti–polio vaccination and ensure effective vaccination in the area. Meanwhile, Bahawalnagar DPO Athar Ismail Amjad said that polio teams would be provided with foolproof security. He said that he had issued strictly directives to the Fortabbas DSP for early arrest of the other accused.
