Karachi: 9 profiteers arrested, 108 fined
KARACHI: Nine profiteers were arrested for overcharging, while another 108 were challaned and fined a collective amount of Rs 1,85,000.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday, operations were conducted in Gulberg, North Nazimabad, Manghopir, Orangi, Landhi, Aram Bagh, Saddar and Jamshed Quarters.
A total of 48 poultry sellers, 35 milk sellers, 10 fruit vendors, two vegetable merchants, nine grocers and two flour sellers were challaned for violations.
City Commissioner Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqi has also directed administrative officers to supervise fruit and vegetable auctions and urged them to continue these anti–profiteering crackdowns till complete enforcement of official price lists.
The city’s authorities often launch campaigns against profiteers and hoarders but they hardly produce any worthwhile results.
