Lahore: 211 criminals held during last month
LAHORE: Lahore police claimed to have smashed 75 gangs of criminals and arrested their 211 members, besides recovering stolen property of worth Rs 39.1 million during crackdowns last month. Police sources said that police had also arrested 773 proclaimed offenders and 729 court absconders of categories A and B during the same period.
As many as 418 cases were registered against 419 accused for having illicit weapon and police also recovered one Kalashnikov, 27–rifles, 19–guns, 386–revolvers and pistols, 3 daggers, 2 carbines and 8,166 rounds from their possession. During the action against drug dealers, 542 cases were registered and 568 culprits were arrested and 33.105kg heroin, 108.458kg charas, 3.655kg poppy and 11,161 bottles of liquor were also recovered from them. Moreover, 126 cases were registered against gamblers and 398 accused were arrested besides recovering betting amount.
During special crackdown, 796 cases were registered against 807 people on violation of law, during the same period, the sources said. DIG Operations Rana Abdul Jabbar appreciated the performance of police and directed them to utilise their full energies to curb crimes in the city and arrest criminals. Meanwhile, Factory Area police claimed to have arrested a drug pusher and recovered 1kg heroin. The Cantonment SP constituted a special team, which arrested Wasim alias Kala and also recovered the heroine. A case has been registered against him.
