Karachi: ‘Target killers, terrorists’ among 13 held
KARACHI: Police arrested 13 suspected target killers and terrorists on Monday, including the man believed to be responsible for the Chakra Goth attack three years ago.
SSP East Pir Muhammad Shah told reporters that notorious target killer Rashid alias Ghaseeta, wanted for killing six policemen in a bus attack in Chakra Goth, Korangi in 2011, had been arrested in a raid in Lines Area. Rashid is also believed to be involved in several other killings He was found in possession of many weapons.
The East Zone police also arrested an alleged terrorist, Ajmal Khan alias Pahari. He is believed to be a member of the banned outfit Harkatul Mujahideen and specialises in making bombs.
The SSP East said three accomplices of Ajmal were killed in Patel Para when they an improvised explosive device they were preparing went off.
SSP West Irfan Baloch said at a separate press conference that a notorious target killer, Aftab alias Kallu, who was wanted for over 13 target killings including that of Pakistan People’s Party activists, had been put behind bars.
He added that Aftab was affiliated with a political party and acting as their assassin in Orangi Town and its adjoining areas.
The West Zone also arrested Arif, allegedly a member of a banned outfit.
The SSP West said Arif was involved in the killing of two policemen – constables Muhammad Khan and Abdur Rahim.
The West zone police also arrested nine other men suspected of involvement in murders, sodomy, police encounters and motorcycle snatchings.
The police official said a large number of Taliban militants were present in district West.
He added that they involved in extorting traders, kidnappings for ransom and killing policemen.
“The police, however, are trying to clamp down on their network and have already killed many of them. The others are on the run.”
