Lahore: 3.2 tonnes of dead chicken meat seized, 9 criminals held
LAHORE: The National Highways and Motorway Police have seized 3,200 kilogrammes of dead chicken meat and arrested nine criminals on the national highways on Wednesday. According to a spokesperson for the NH&MP, patrolling officers spotted some vehicles near Okara and stopped them for checking.
He said that during the search of the vehicles, 3,200kg chicken meat was recovered from their custody. The patrolling officers also arrested nine criminals namely Zafarullah, Imran, Muhammad Boota, Abdul Razaq, Muhammed Ammir, Shukat Ali, Khawer, Khalid and Saeed. During initial interrogation, the criminals revelled that the dead chicken was being prepared for supply to various sale points, like marriage halls and hotels, in different areas of the province, especially Lahore, Sheikhupura, Manga Mandi and Okara.
He said that the local veterinary doctor, who was called in, also confirmed that the said chicken was unsafe for human consumption. All the three vehicles laded with the dead meat, along with the criminals, were handed over to the local police for further legal proceedings. NH&MP DIG Mirza Shakil Ahmad appreciated the efforts of the officers of the motorway police, especially the officers who seized the meat and arrested the criminals.
