16 profiteers arrested in Karachi
KARACHI: Sixteen shopkeepers were arrested and sent to jail during a crackdown to check profiteering and violation of the official price list of essential commodities.
In a statement issued by the Karachi commissioner on Monday, 77 shopkeepers were fined and Rs 197,500 were recovered in penalties. He said 61 milk sellers, one fruit vendor, one meat merchant and eight chicken sellers were fined for selling the essential commodities on the prices in violation to the notified price list.
The action was taken in Saddar, Gulshan-e–Iqbal, Orangi Town, Liaquatabad, North Nazimabad, New Karachi, Model Colony, Shah Faisal and Korangi.
The Karachi commissioner directed the officials to control prices and ensure the sale of commodities in accordance with the price list to provide relief to the people.
