3 extortionists held in Karachi
KARACHI: Three extortionists were arrested on Sunday after a successful joint operation by the Gulshan-e-Iqbal police and the CPLC.
The arrests were made in connection with a complaint filed by a private school owner, Ibrahim, who was being threatened of dire consequences if he refused to pay Rs 500,000 to unidentified callers.
Gulshan SHO Aurangzeb Khattak informed that a joint team was formed with the CPLC to negotiate with the extortionists. After convincing the accused to settle on Rs 50,000, they were called to the Safari Park area for the exchange.
Police personnel in civvies were positioned in the area and although the suspects tried to flee under the cover of fire, Jameel alias Lahoti and Shahzad Baloch were taken into custody after an encounter.
Two TT pistols, several SIM cards and a motorcycle were recovered from their possession. During interrogation, the accused revealed the location of another accomplice and the police conducted a raid near Rashid Minhas Road and arrested a suspect named Faraz Ali.
