Karachi: 3 cops held for helping Afghan robbers escape
KARACHI: Four Afghan–origin outlaws involved in highway robberies managed to flee from police custody, while the cops accused of facilitating the escape have been arrested.
A group of Afghan-origin comprised of five members was arrested by police on Thursday. After registering cases against them, they were kept detained at Abbas Town Police Post for further investigation. Four members of the group managed to flee from the custody on Saturday.
Sources said that police personnel facilitated the escape after taking bribes, adding that the culprits were involved in number of cases of highway robberies and weapons were also recovered from their possession.
When contacted, DSP Qamar Ahmed confirmed the escape, and said that three cops post’s in-charge ASI Shabbir Khosa have been arrested, lodging a case against them for their alleged involvement in the robbers’ escape.
