Karachi: 3 army, police impersonators arrested
KARACHI: Rangers have busted a gang of criminals who defrauded citizens by impersonating as army and police officials. A spokesperson for the paramilitary force said on Sunday that complaints were received from Abbas Town that three men, two of them pretending to be army majors and the third a policeman, were minting money from the families of arrested suspects for the release of their loved ones.
Rangers tracked down and arrested the criminals. They also recovered the families’ money. The spokesperson said citizens should inform Rangers on their helpline 1101 about such activities.
A day earlier, the Special Investigation Unit had arrested three men, including two policemen, for committing fraud. The police rounded up Muhammad Aslam, Wazeer Muhammad and Nazeebr Ahmed in a raid in Shershah.
SIU chief SSP Muhammad Farooq Awan had said the “fraudsters” took money from citizens duping them into believing that they would be appointed in government departments. They were arrested with writing pads bearing the letterhead of Asif Ali Zardari.
