Karachi: ‘Bank robbers’ among 7 arrested in raids
KARACHI: The District East police claimed to have arrested seven suspects, including four bank robbers, with weapons during raids carried out in the city.
SSP Syed Pir Muhammad Shah said an informant tipped off the police that suspects involved in heinous crimes were taking refuge in Zaman Town.
Taking action on the information received, a joint raid was carried out by the Zaman Town and District East police.
After a brief encounter, the police arrested Ibn-e-Hassan, Ain-ul-Hassan, Lal Jaan and Haider Abbas with TT pistols and a hi-roof van that they used in bank robberies.
The detainees confessed to making off with Rs3 million from a bank situated in the Sharea Faisal police precincts on October 1, 2010.
On April 24, 2012 they robbed Rs9.5 million from a bank situated in Block 6 of PECHS, and on October 2 the same year they made off with Rs4.7 million from another bank situated in the Sharea Faisal police precincts.
They also confessed to making off with Rs4.5 million from a bank situated in the Gulistan-e-Jauhar police precincts on October 15, 2012. Security guard Syed Mir Hassan was killed and two others injured in the incident.
In their last bank robbery committed on March 21 last year, they made off with Rs1.6 million from a bank situated in the Ferozabad police precincts.
