Minor girl raped, strangled in Charsadda
CHARSADDA: A minor girl was killed after being raped in a remote village of Charsadda in the wee hours of Thursday. The incident took place in Bugaro Shah village of Behlola union council in Charsadda District. The victim, 10, a grade-III student at a local school, went to her uncle’s home late on Wednesday evening.
She was found dead by the locals in a drain about 50 feet outside her house early on Thursday with a nylon shawl tightened around her neck. Hakim, an eyewitness, said that she had bruises on her face, hands and legs. The police took the body to Charsadda District headquarters hospital for a post–mortem.
“She was brutally raped and suffered grievous internal injuries. Besides, there were signs of hanging on her neck,” hospital sources revealed. The victim was laid to rest at 11am in her native village.
The victim’s father said that she went to his brother’s house for an overnight stay. “Early in the morning, I was informed about the incident by locals who came to my place,” the father told Daily Times.
He has not nominated anyone in the First Information Report (FIR) of the incident, but police has taken six of his nephews into custody.
Sub–inspector Dayan Khan, a local police official investigating the case, said the girl was assaulted in a small hujra (male guesthouse) owned by her uncle. “We arrested two suspects in the morning and information from them has led us close to the ring of rapists and we made further arrests as well,” Dayan told Daily Times. In the same village a man was beaten up badly a few months ago for allegedly desecrating a copy of the holy Quran.
Naushad, 23, had later confessed to the act before police. However, he later retracted his statement, saying he had recorded it under duress.
