Karachi: ‘Lyari gangsters’ among 14 arrested
KARACHI: Fourteen suspects, including two Lyari–based gangsters, were arrested in differents raids on Monday. A Kharadar police team arrested Lyari gangster Waqar alias Cheena with a pistol and two kilograms of hashish from the Khajoor Bazaar locality, said South Range DIG Abdul Khaliq Sheikh.
Waqar led the police to his accomplices’ hideout, but none of them were there. However, the police found two pistols, 1,500 bullets of 12mm pistols, four hand grenades, four walkie–talkie sets and 80 kilograms of hashish at the hideout. Waqar was involved in an attack on policemen in Risala, which had resulted in a cop’s death and injuries to two more.
He was also involved in another attack on the police, which had resulted in the escape of a death row inmate.
Another “Lyari gangster” Naveed Butt was arrested with a pistol, a hand grenade and a snatched motorcycle by the South Range police from the Old City area. Butt led the police to seize 350 cartons of energy saving lamps that were snatched from a sales vehicle.
